Letter from the President
| by: Reese Smith | | Posted: 2011-05-01 | | April showers bring May flowers; at least that’s how the saying goes. Warm and dry
wishes from you’re newly elected President of the SHRA. My name is Maurice (Reese)
Smith. I have recently had the pleasure of being elected President for your SHRA.
I formerly served as your Vice President, so I am already involved in all of the great
things that our neighborhood has to offer.
I would like to introduce your new board of directors for the year 2011. The Vice
President will be Joe Harmon, formerly the keeper of the tennis courts. The secretary will
be Bret Middleton, formerly your President. The Treasurer will be Terry Maxwell; he is
retaining his current position. Please join me in welcoming our newly elected board. We
all look forward to meeting and enjoying all of our neighbors in the coming year.
I would like to thank Bret Middleton as President and Penny Hulefeld as Secretary for
their service during the past few years. They both provided important work that helped
our association move forward.
We have had two changes in our committee chairs that I would like to share with you.
The chairs for the club house rentals will be Maria and Joe Harmon. This is one of the
most time consuming jobs on our board. Please begin to contact them with all of your
club house rental plans. The other change will be that Bret Middleton will now be the
chair for tennis courts.
There are a couple of dates that I would like for everyone to mark down on their calendar.
The first is May 15 th, this is the final day to pay your SHRA assessment. The next
day is May 21st, this our club house clean up day. I invite all neighbors from all of our
neighborhoods to join us at this event. This event is very important to our community.
The 1st reason is to get all of our outdoor venues prepared for some summertime fun. The
club house and grounds are in pretty good shape. This clean up day should not be back
breaking as it has been in past years. The second is to get to know your neighbors. We
have several different neighborhoods that feed into our club house. The best way I can
figure to get to know one another is on this day. This day we can come as we are and
relax and get to know each other. One of the reasons for me moving to this community
was for the close knit feel that it has to offer. I would like for everyone who reads this, to
tell someone who didn’t to join me at the clubhouse on May 15th.
The board members and I would like to promote and provide as many functions as we
can during the upcoming year. We would like to invite anyone who has an hour a month
and some community spirit to join us on the board. We would also like to invite any
volunteers that would like to be involved in some up coming events.
The good weather is just about here. Let’s all get out and make this a great 2011 for
SHRA.
Respectfully submitted,
Reese Smith | | | | by: Bret Middleton | | Posted: 2009-02-28 | | Spring is around the corner and we hope you have endured the cold spells in January and February. You have recently received your yearly annual assessment. Please contact Theresa Klum if you have any questions regarding this and thank you for those of you that have already sent in your payment.
Please note the important meeting dates and meeting date/time changes for some of the upcoming meetings.
The electrical upgrade and HVAC upgrade are in process and should be completed by the end of February. Please consider utilizing your Clubhouse in those hot summer months for bridal/baby showers, birthday parties and other events now that we have AC. We have had interest in a “Second Chance Prom” party in the spring. Please email Reese Smith if you would be interested in an “adult prom” for an out of the ordinary event. At the February meeting, we discussed in depth adding a secure entry gate (keyed/card or coded) at the pool entrance to discourage un-authorized entry and use. We genuinely welcome your feedback on this matter, please email or contact any of us concerning your thoughts. This would be a big step for us, but many area associations have or are also considering such action. In many parts of the country, it’s almost unheard of not to have a secured entry into the pool. Also, please see the CY08 fiscal results and CY09 budget in the current February 2009 newsletter.
We are in a position to start some projects in the next few years now that our loan is paid off for the pool repairs made in 2002. Our intentions are to make small to medium sized investments over each of the next 5 years in the pool area, Clubhouse, and grounds, as well as start saving enough for major tennis court repairs, Clubhouse and pool repairs, and enhancements that we foresee in the next 10 years. Again, we value your input so please contact us with your ideas!!
In closing, I would like to ask you to entertain becoming a community volunteer in the form of a Board Member or Social Committee Member. We will have two openings on the Board in April and no one has made a commitment to head the Social Committee as of yet. Please, consider your neighbors and neighborhood and volunteer for a season on the Board or the Social Committee. One last note, please put on your calendars the Clean Up Day that will be May 16th. And don’t forget, your Kings 7th – 12th graders can get community service hours for helping us out that day! Thanks to all who have so generously given their time and efforts in 2008. We look forward to many fun filled events in 2009!!
Respectfully,
Bret Middleton
President | | | | by: Bret Middleton | | Posted: 2008-03-17 | | As a reminder, the newsletter will only come in the form of an electronic version (with the exception of this issue and June, July, and August) to those of you signed up to receive it. If you have not signed up, please do so at www.landenshra.com. Also, within a matter of days, we will have the new website up and running. Please check it out and let us know your thoughts as we continue to enhance and improve it.
Please see the voting proxy included with this newsletter, and make an effort to return them as requested. This is your Association, and as such, your participation in these matters is the key to our success. If you have any questions, please contact a Board Member.
One business matter the Board has been discussing and investigating is the matter of furnishing alcohol at some gatherings and functions. At the last Board Meeting, after much investigation and consultation with insurance sources and acquiring legal advice, it has been determined we are covered adequately on insurance and are in legal compliance. The Board has made a suggestion to continue providing alcohol for two gatherings in 2008, as in the past, the 4th of July Party and the Adult Pool Party. We are adding this as a recurring motion to be voted on by the Board at the Annual Meeting. Thus, going forward, the Board will be able to review the purchase of alcohol for SHRA sponsored events on an annual basis.
Spring is near (we hope after this past weekend…) which means the pool will be open for business before you know it. We would like to welcome our new pool management company, SwimSafe Pool Management which is locally owned, managed, and operated by Cary Belyea. Cary has slowly built his business over the past several years, conservatively and selectively growing his clientele each year with respect and attention to detail, concentrating on safely and unusually high customer service. Cary and his company came highly recommended by his existing customers; have some experience with the SHRA facility through his previous employer; and have built a solid reputation for first class service. Through successful bidding and negotiation, we have secured SwimSafe for three years with a substantial financial savings when compared to our previous pool management company. AND, we will be able to extend our pool hours of operation from 10 AM - 9 PM ALL SEASON LONG!! We look forward to working with Cary and his team this pool season.
As winter comes to a close, another piece of business comes to mind, paying our homeowners’ association assessments. We have all received our notices, with various payment options such as a split payment plan and new credit card payment options. Please be sure to pay your invoice on time to ensure that no late charges are incurred. Remember, we have only raised the SHRA assessments once in several years, and we are still well under the average cost compared with other similar associations.
Your contribution not only allows us to have activities for the family and neighborhood comradory, it maintains the facilities, and the facilities and amenities themselves bring untold value to your community AND your property values.
In closing, I would like to thank the entire SHRA Board of Trustees, committee members, and community volunteers for their dedication of time and effort. They have made 2007 a great success and we look forward to an even better and more exciting 2008!
Respectfully,
Bret Middleton
President | | | | by: Bret Middleton | | Posted: 2007-09-01 | | Summer’s end is near, the kids are back at school, and those seniors that graduated in May left the nest and have headed out on life’s journey at college. The leaves will soon be turning and football season is here! Just like the change of the seasons, so do several aspects of our lives. This being said, we would like to welcome some new Board members that have graciously agreed to donate their time and efforts to the good will of our Homeowner’s Association. I would like to welcome Beth Galberg and Audrey Maschino who will be co-chairpersons of the clubhouse. If you would like to rent the clubhouse, please see their contact information below. Check out the reservation website as well.
Other new volunteers are Reese Smith has joined as a Board member at large; James Ball has joined us as Website Chair; and Penny Hulefeld has also joined as a Board member as well as continuing on as Social Chair.
A special thanks to Penny who through her hard work, pulled off one of the best Adult Pool Parties ever from what I hear. So much time and effort is required for all the functions we do, and I don’t think anyone can thank Penny enough!
As mentioned in the past, we continue to plan for repairs on the tennis courts and fencing. Also, in and effort to be fiscally responsible, more environmentally conscious, and to address delivery challenges, we have decided that beginning January 2008, we will move toward a monthly electronic newsletter with delivery of paper hard copies for only the June, July, and August newsletters. The Fiscal Meeting Notice and Annual Meeting Notice will continue to be mailed hard copies. You will need to register to receive these, and all past newsletters are also archived.
If at anytime, you have questions or comments concerning any topic, please do not hesitate to contact a Board member, or submit a question through our inquiry form link on the web.
Have a great fall season!
Respectfully,
Bret Middleton, President | | |
